The COVID-19 pandemic changed just about everything, and in 2021, ABCD's gala goes virtual.

 

Traditionally, each year, the organization hosts a popular and glamorous gathering where inspiring changemakers, international artists, and friends and neighbors gather to honor extraordinary volunteers and allies for their compassionate action.

 

Featured speakers and artists have included Harry Belafonte, the late Congressman John Lewis, The Roots, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Audra McDonald.

 

A quick look back: part of building an exceptional in-house marketing team including raising the bar by producing concept-driven events In 2016, concepting led to Behind Every Hero is a Story. From start to finish, we featured each honoree as the star of their own trailblazing tale.

 

In 2017, pondering the art of humanity inspired The Heart of Humanity. We directed five gifted photographers to capture the heart of these heroes in their own way. We then showcased their stunning portraits as an art exhibit at the event and online. (A personal favorite.)

In It Together emerged organically in 2018 as we gauged the social climate and focused on unity and community with a passionate red and black motif.

In 2019, as the country became increasingly polarized, we thanked our extraordinary volunteers for shining their light in the darkness. Illuminate the Path became the mantra for a luminous evening.

 

Multichannel marketing starts well in advance through earned social media, a microsite, PR, email, pro bono advertising (digital, print, OOH, Captivate), literature, and a spectacular gala environment.
